Traveling has always been my way of breaking free from routine and experiencing life in its most exciting form. Every trip I take feels like a new chapter in my personal story. For me, travel is not just about sightseeing—it’s about chasing experiences that make the heart race and the soul smile. One such adventure that has always fascinated me is paragliding.
Flying high above mountains, valleys, and rivers feels like a dream. The sense of freedom, the rush of adrenaline, and the breathtaking views make paragliding one of the most thrilling travel experiences in India. The best part is that India has plenty of incredible paragliding spots that are budget-friendly, safe, and perfect for beginners as well as pros.
Why Paragliding is Special
Paragliding, for me, is more than just an adventure sport—it’s an emotion. The first time I tried it, I was nervous, but the moment my feet left the ground and I started gliding through the air, all my fears disappeared. It felt like I was on top of the world, with nothing but the wind to guide me.
Summers, especially from March to June, are the best time to try paragliding in most parts of India. The skies are usually clear, the winds are favorable, and the cool mountain breeze makes the flight even more enjoyable.
Bir Billing – The Paragliding Capital of India
If there’s one place that every paraglider dreams of visiting, it’s Bir Billing in Himachal Pradesh. Often called the paragliding capital of India, Bir Billing hosted the Paragliding World Cup in 2015, which put it on the global adventure map.
When I went paragliding here, the flight started from Billing (around 8,000 feet above sea level) and landed at Bir. The view of the Kangra Valley below was breathtaking. The best part is that Bir also has a vibrant backpacker culture with budget stays, cafés, and a peaceful Tibetan vibe. It’s affordable, safe, and unforgettable.

Manali – Adventure Meets Beauty
Another favorite of mine is Manali. Known for its snow-capped peaks and lush valleys, Manali is also a hotspot for adventure sports, including paragliding. Solang Valley, located just a short drive from Manali town, is one of the most popular spots for flying.
I still remember soaring over the valley, with the Beas River flowing below and mountains stretching endlessly around me. It was like living in a postcard. The flights here are reasonably priced, making it perfect for budget travelers. If you visit Manali in summer, paragliding is a must-try activity.

Nainital – Glide Over the Lakes
Nainital, the beautiful lake district of Uttarakhand, offers one of the most unique paragliding experiences in India. Imagine flying high above the sparkling lakes, lush forests, and quaint hilltops—it feels magical.
When I tried paragliding in Naukuchiatal, a nearby lake town, the bird’s-eye view of the nine-cornered lake was stunning. The best thing about paragliding in Nainital is that it combines adventure with serenity. After an adrenaline-filled flight, you can relax by the lakes and enjoy the calm side of the hills.

Kamshet – Maharashtra’s Adventure Gem
For those living closer to Mumbai or Pune, Kamshet in Maharashtra is an excellent paragliding spot. Nestled in the Western Ghats, it’s surrounded by rolling hills, ancient forts, and scenic villages.
I once took a tandem flight here and was amazed at how peaceful the skies felt. Unlike crowded tourist spots, Kamshet has a rustic charm, and the paragliding schools here are well-known for their safety standards. It’s affordable too, which makes it a great option for those looking to try paragliding without spending too much.
Gangtok – A Himalayan Delight
If you want to experience paragliding in the Northeast, Gangtok in Sikkim is the place to be. The stunning view of the Himalayas, green valleys, and Buddhist monasteries makes it a one-of-a-kind experience.
I still remember the excitement of gliding over the city, with the majestic Kanchenjunga peaks in the background. The flights are affordable, and the vibe of Sikkim adds a cultural touch to the adventure. Summers here are pleasant, making it the best time for this activity
